Man reports dad for abusing dogs

SINGAPORE - An elderly man's abuse of his two pet dogs finally became too much for his son, who called the police on him, according to Lianhe Wanbao.

The son, believed to be in his 30s, declined to be named, but told the Chinese paper that his father, 69, had become more violent in the past two years, and frequently vented his anger on the dogs.

"He used canes to beat the dogs, and insisted they remain in a corner, without letting them move about."

The dogs are two and 11 years old.

In April, the elderly man, who lives at Block 651 in Woodlands Ring Road, used rubber bands to tie up the mouth of the older dog, said the son.

This led to an infection of the dog's mouth, which required an operation.

The son finally reported his father's abusive ways to the police after a neighbour uploaded a video of the elderly man mistreating the pets on citizen-journalism website Stomp last week.

The video, which went on for 19 seconds, showed the elderly man shouting and kicking at his dogs.
