SHAH ALAM - The body of a man was found slumped in a car here with a gunshot wound.
Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said investigations revealed that the man was killed for stealing a RM1mil (S$386,920)tokay gecko after agreeing to look for a potential buyer.
The reptile is a much sought-after species due to its reputed ability to cure a range of ailments, including HIV.
SDC Mohd Shukri said police detained 16 suspects aged between 21 and 48 to assist in the investigation.
"We also detained a 60-year-old businesswoman, who is believed to have hired someone to kill the man," SDC Mohd Shukri told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday.
He said the businesswoman, who kept the gecko, told police that she handed over the reptile to the victim as he had promised to find a potential buyer but he fled with it.
