Man shot dead on the way to prayers

JOHOR BARU - A 29-year-old businessman who had travelled all the way from Kedah to attend the 16th-day prayers for a slain gangster was himself shot dead by a man on a motorcycle.

The incident happened about 10m from the dead gangster's house at Jalan Teratai 32, Taman Johor Jaya, yesterday.

The prayers were held to commemorate the 16th day of the death of D. Selvam, 35, known as Teratai Boy Johor, who was shot dead in Malacca on Sept 12.

In the incident, businessman K. Anand was in a car with another man when two men on a motorcycle came up to their car before one of them fired at least four shots.

Anand, who was driving, died on the spot while the other man managed to escape.

About a dozen people who were taking part in the prayers quickly rushed over when they heard the shot but Anand was already dead.

Anand does not have any criminal records.

Sri Alam OCPD Supt Roslan Zainuddin confirmed the case but declined to provide details on the investigations.

Selvam, who had 10 criminal records, was shot dead by police along with another man in Cheng, Malacca.
