Man shot during heated argument

IPOH - A 38-year-old man was shot in the ribs during a heated argument among a group of men at a restaurant near Jalan Laxamana here.

The victim, from Kampar, was rushed to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for treatment, where his condition was reported to be stable yesterday.

Perak police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the police found a 9mm bullet casing at the scene.

Relating events that led to the shooting, he said the victim and five others had gathered for drinks at the restaurant when a quarrel broke out at around 3.30am on Friday.

"Two of the men then left the place in a black Honda CRV.

"However, they returned about 20 minutes later and the argument continued," said SDC Acryl Sani, adding that one of them was believed to have fired the shot.

He said the victim had no previous criminal record.

"Four suspects, aged between 35 and 45, have been detained to assist in investigations," he said, adding that all of them were from Perak.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
