KLANG - A man who was out with three friends early yesterday was killed after being set upon by a gang of eight men.

Vijayan Rajagopal, in his 40s, was drinking with his friends in front of a mini market at 4th Mile Jalan Kg Jawa at about 1.30am when the attack occurred.

A police source said eight men on motorcycles arrived at the drinking spot and four of them dismounted.

The four parang-wielding men attacked Vijayan and his friends.

Vijayan, who was from Labu, Seremban, bore the brunt of the assault while his friends managed to escape.

Police went to the scene after being notified by the public at about 3am.

They found Vijayan dead with multiple slash wounds on his head. His left wrist had been chopped off.

Police are investigating the motive.

The identities of Vijayan's three companions are still unknown.

In an unrelated incident, the fourth floors of three connected buildings were totally destroyed in a mid-morning fire in Lebuh Gopeng near the town centre yesterday.

Three fire engines, two water tankers and 23 personnel from the Sungai Pinang, Kota Raja and Port Klang fire stations took 25 minutes to put out the fire.

According to Sungai Pinang fire station Senior Fire Officer II M. Sathiaseelan, the team had to wait for the two water tankers as the nearest fire hydrant had low pressure.

"We managed to put the fire out in less than half an hour," he said.

There were no casualties.
