IPOH - In an attempt to flee from a car repossessor, a man in a Perodua Viva crashed into four other cars. He ended up trying to escape all five individuals who gave chase in their vehicles.
The 34-year-old tow truck driver drove to the Jelapang police station and ran into the building with a parang in hand.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the incident that took place last Friday at about 3pm occurred because the man was trying to flee from the car repossessor after failing to pay a six-month debt.
“He rammed into four cars while on his way to the police station, prompting the drivers to chase him,” he said yesterday.
“While at the police station, he held a parang in trying to defend himself against his pursuers. He was not aggressive but had probably panicked from the whole incident.”
ACP Sum said the man from Bota, Perak Tengah, had a stash of weapons in his car. He also has a previous conviction for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons.
He said the man was later arrested and charged with possession of weapons and making threats to cause hurt.
In another unrelated incident, ACP Sum said police arrested two men, aged 26 and 29, for pretending to be policemen and attempting to rob three people in Menglembu on Dec 9.
He said the victims were on their way to the night market in Menglembu when they were stopped by the two men, who introduced themselves as policemen.
They were told to hand over their belongings.
“One of the victims managed to run and seek help from some Rela members nearby.
“They rushed to the scene, stopped the duo and alerted the police,” ACP Sum said.
