Man uses fake bank cert as dowry

A 21-YEAR-OLD man managed to marry his wife using a fake bank certificate of 100,000 yuan (S$22,000) needed for the dowry, Guang Ming Daily reported.

The man, known only as Zhang from Hubei, China, showed the fake certificate to the woman's mother when she asked him about the dowry.

Zhang managed to get married after "proving" that he had the money.

However, not long after that, his wife and mother-in-law went to the bank to check the couple's saving accounts. They found that the certificate was fake.

Police are investigating the case after bank officials lodged a police report.
