Man wins $8,000 cash prize, wants to buy ring for girlfriend

SINGAPORE - He has won the biggest cash prize so far in the TNP Bonus Challenge.

And he is hoping to get married soon.

Mr Lim Boon Keng, 27, a manager at a fast food restaurant, won $8,000 in the TNP Bonus Challenge yesterday.

And the first thing he will buy with the prize money is a ring for his girlfriend, also 27.

Dating for 9 months

He said: "We have been dating for nine months now, and I intend to propose next month.

"I hope to buy her a nice, beautiful wedding ring. One she will like, which she will treasure for as long as she lives, because that's how much she means to me."

Mr Lim also intends to treat his family to a meal and buy clothes for himself.

He had bought a copy of The New Paper from a 7-Eleven shop near his home in Sembawang before taking a bus to his workplace in Tanjong Pagar.

He said: "On the bus ride. I realised that I have the winning number on my card. I was so stunned that I didn't know how to react." He called his girlfriend and his mother.

"I could hardly control my excitement. I was smiling at work all day," said Mr Lim, who has been buying TNP for the last three years.

He said he buys the paper mainly for the football news.
