The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has launched a series of three commemorative coins on Saturday to mark the nation's 50th year of independence.
MAS said in a statement that the series will be issued on May 28, and comprise a $2 cupro-nickel coin, a $5 silver coin and a $50 gold coin.
The coins, themed 'Education, Building Our Nation Together', highlight the fundamental role education has played in the transformation of a young nation.
Singapore's basic education, higher education and educators, as well as the country's multi-racial diversity are depicted in each of the three coins.
The other side of the coins show the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2015.
MAS added that the commemorative coins are a lead up to another series of commemorative notes that will be issued in the second half of the year.
