MFA welcomes adoption of UNSCR 2216 on Yemen

SINGAPORE - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2216 on the situation in Yemen.

In a statement today, a MFA spokesperson said that it is concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen. It also voiced support for the call for all parties to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance as well as the protection and evacuation of civilians from Yemen.

"We join the call for all parties in Yemen to resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation to reach a political solution as brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council and the good offices of the United Nations Secretary-General," the spokesperson said.

The UN's adoption of UNSCR 2216 this week effectively means that it has imposed sanctions on individuals it said were undermining the stability of Yemen.

The Council also demanded that the Houthis withdraw from all areas seized during the latest conflict, relinquish arms seized from military and security institutions, cease all actions falling exclusively within the authority of the legitimate Government of Yemen and fully implement previous Council resolutions.
