MIRI - Police have arrested a husband and wife over the death of their adopted two-year-old child.

The husband in his 30s and his wife, who is in her 20s, are suspected of having inflicted serious injuries on the boy who died at the intensive care unit of the Miri Hospital at about 12.30pm on Saturday.

The case came to light following a police report filed by hospital authorities.

According to the report, the couple had rushed the baby to a private hospital in Miri City. The private hospital, however, immediately alerted the Miri Hospital upon finding serious injuries on the baby.

The child was then sent to the Miri Hospital where he was warded in the Intensive Care Unit.

The couple told hospital authorities that they had adopted the baby in 2014.

They have a biological son of their own who is five-years-old.

A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
