Molester begs victim to let him touch her

She is thankful that the man who had traumatised two of her daughters is now behind bars.

Still, the mother of three young daughters, is plagued by a nagging fear that the man who had barged into the family's flat on Jan 3 - naked, no less - to peep at her 16-year-old daughter in the shower may return to seek revenge after his jail term.

"What if he returns? I don't even know if he is a resident of this estate," she told The New Paper yesterday when we visited her.

Yesterday, the man, Tan Wee Beng, 29, was sentenced to 13 months' jail and three strokes of the cane for insulting and outraging the modesty of the teen, and voluntarily causing hurt to her.

Tan had surrendered to the authorities on Jan 25 after police released to the media screenshots of CCTV footage of Tan taken from a lift camera. We are not naming the teen or her mother as the teen is a victim of a sex crime.

SCARE OR HURT

That afternoon, the woman's youngest daughter was watching television alone in the living room.

Tan decided to enter the rental flat, as he had wanted "to scare or hurt" the occupants of the flat.

His act was made easier as the front door was left ajar and the gate was not locked.

Tan stripped naked and entered the flat using only his T-shirt to cover his face. The feisty 11-year-old girl shouted at the intruder and warned her elder sister, who was in the bathroom.

After discovering there were no adults in the flat, Tan took a stool and placed it near the bathroom door to watch the 16-year-old sister taking a shower.

Said the girls' mother, who received a telephone call from her youngest daughter after Tan made his escape: "I knew my youngest daughter was not joking as I could hear her voice trembling. "Yet, I felt so helpless when I was told what had happened. I was at work and our neighbours only returned late at night.

"So they couldn't ask anybody for help. I told my youngest daughter to call the police."

Nevertheless, the elder sister decided to take control of the situation.

Wrapped in a towel, she pushed Tan, whom the mother described as "chubby", out of the flat. In doing so, she sustained scratches to her hand and breast. But the teen's ordeal was not over.

Tan became aroused while standing outside the flat.

Twice, he begged her to allow him to touch her. The teen rejected both his pleas. But before he escaped, Tan squeezed the girl's right breast.

In court yesterday District Judge Toh Yung Cheong reminded Tan before sentencing him that "these are serious offences... She (the victim) did nothing to provoke you."

Nevertheless, Tan had the audacity to ask the judge if his "sentence could be lowered further". The judge refused.

The teen's mother said she had noticed a change in her eldest daughter behaviour after the incident.

"She seems a little distant and doesn't like to talk about that day," said the mother.

"She feels she is being watched every time she takes a shower."

"She latches the toilet door every time now and she's reminded of what happened that day each time she showers."
