More flexibility needed in Lease Buyback Scheme

More flexibility needed in Lease Buyback Scheme

I agree with Mr Geoffrey Kung that the Lease Buyback Scheme is not attractive and flexible enough ("Current offer not a good deal"; last Tuesday).

The Government should make the Lease Buyback Scheme reversible. That is, an owner should be allowed to buy back the lease from the Government, with interest of course.

To make the scheme more flexible, the Government should allow the owner to remain in the flat until he dies.

This will ease the worry owners may have of outliving their remaining lease and having no place to stay in their old age.

I am sure more owners will opt for the scheme if these two suggestions are implemented.
