More open spaces and family-friendly amenities at redeveloped Marine Cove

SINGAPORE - Visitors to the upgraded Marine Cove at East Coast Park will be greeted with more open spaces, improved connectivity and family-friendly amenities.

The 21,500 sq m redevelopment, which began works in 2014, also boasts new dining options, a sea-facing children's playground and wheelchair-friendly footpaths to other areas of the park, NParks said in a media release on Friday (June 24).

To make it more accessible, a new linkway has been built to connect the dining outlets with the nearby underpass to Marine Terrace.

The two carparks at Marine Cove, C2 and C3, have also been reconfigured to increase the number of parking lots.

The five dining outlets, which will open progressively from Tuesday, include Babalicious, Hill Street Coffee Shop, McDonald's, My Briyani House and The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Mr Kong Yit San, NParks' assistant chief executive officer (Park Management and Lifestyle Cluster), said: "With more than 7.5 million visits annually, East Coast Park is Singapore's most popular park, catering to the diverse needs of users. There are quiet corners, as well as lawn areas where families and friends can play together.

"The enhancement projects over the next two years are part of NParks' efforts to create more open spaces with vistas of the sea, upgrade amenities, and improve accessibility and connectivity within the park."

Among the family-friendly facilities is a new standalone public toilet which incorporates restrooms, sinks and shower facilities tailored to children.

A 3,500 sq m children's playground with a range of play equipment suitable for children aged between two and 12 will open on Wednesday.

As part of the sensitive upgrading of Marine Cove, NParks said it has retained the mature trees in the vicinity to provide shade.
