Motor accident responsible for 'cut' fence at Ang Mo Kio bus depot

SINGAPORE - A motor accident was the cause of a fence found damaged last week at an Ang Mo Kio bus depot, according to the Singapore Police Force.

The Land Transport Authority said in a statement on Friday that a fence enclosing the grass verge between the perimeter fences of the SMRT bus depot and the SBS Transit bus depots in Ang Mo Kio appeared to have been cut.

Suspicions of the fence being cut arose as the incident happened after two cases of vandalism on SMRT trains this year, The Straits Times reported.

However, police investigations have revealed that an unreported motor accident had damaged the fence. According to the police, the motorist is assisting them with investigations.

The damaged fence is the second security breach involving a depot this month.

On Nov 8, 2014, graffiti was discovered on the exterior of an SMRT train at Bishan depot, before it was put into service. An earlier report by The Straits Times quoted a source as saying that early assessment pointed to an inside job, but that there was also a slight possibility that the culprits were intruders.
