Multi-car crashes jam up PIE and ECP

FIVE people were injured in two multi-car pile-ups on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) yesterday morning.

The two accidents happened at separate locations on the PIE towards Tuas, causing a jam from the exit to Jurong West Avenue 2 until the Clementi Avenue 6 exit.

A Lianhe Wanbao reporter who was at the scene counted 11 vehicles at the second accident site, the Chinese evening daily reported. But according to police, there were eight vehicles at each spot.

Meanwhile, three people were taken to Changi General Hospital after an accident involving three vehicles on the East Coast Parkway (ECP) yesterday morning.

There was another accident involving vehicles on fire near the same location. The fire was put out by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers using a water jet and two compressed air foam backpacks. No one was injured in the accident, SCDF said.

Both accidents on the ECP caused a massive jam yesterday morning.
