My point: Don't neglect special education teachers

SINGAPORE - The Government has spoken about revising the pay of pre-school teachers and social workers, to attract more people to these professions.

I suggest that the initiative also include special education teachers, teachers for children with learning disorders and occupational therapists.

Currently, their remuneration is below market rates, but their jobs are as challenging as those of pre-school teachers and social workers, if not more so.

The Government should similarly subsidise programmes to train such teachers and raise awareness of their fields.
