My point: Make it easier to escape from flats

SINGAPORE - The main door of an HDB flat is the only way to exit the unit in an emergency.

Often, two keys are needed to open the door as there is a double-locked metal gate in the way. This lowers the occupants' chances of escaping.

In condominiums, there are no metal gates. Hotel rooms also have no metal gates and come with higher-security door locks which do not require keys to open in an emergency. The HDB should remove all metal gates and install higher-security door locks to allow residents to escape more easily.
