SINGAPORE - 50 aircraft will participate in this year's National Day Parade (NDP) air segment to commemorate Singapore's 50 years of independence.
According to a Mindef press statement, the feat makes it the largest number of aircraft to participate in the NDP at the Padang so far.
Channel NewsAsia reported that only 20 aircraft took part in the aerial display segment when the National Day Parade was last held at the Padang in 2010.
Besides the traditional State Flag flypast, this year's highlights for Air Participation include the "Five Stars" Tribute Aerial Flypast and the aerial bomb-burst performed by the RSAF Black Knights.
The "50" formation flypast comprises of 20 F-16s, and the aerial flypast segment will showcase fighter jets, helicopters and transport aircraft.
Chairman of the Air Participation Committee, Colonel (COL) Francis Ngooi said: "In celebration of our nation's Golden Jubilee, we hope to make this year's NDP memorable and special for Singaporeans. While viewing the "50" formation, we hope Singaporeans will be reminded of our progress over the past 50 years and be inspired to work towards the future with the same pioneering spirit."
He added: "The participation of 50 aircraft, comprising fighter jets, helicopters and transport aircraft, also marks our growth as an integrated and professional Air Force."
