NDR 2015: MUIS to strengthen teaching of secular subjects in madrasahs

SINGAPORE - The Government will be working with the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) to strengthen the teaching of secular subjects in madrasahs.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in his National Day Rally Malay speech that there will be increased financial support to upgrade teachers of secular subjects in madrasahs.

Students who do well in secular subjects will also receive financial awards, PM Lee said.

PM Lee also touched on the need for the Malay/Muslim community to have religious leaders who have grown up in Singapore and understand the society.

This will protect Singapore from the threat of violent extremism, PM Lee added.
