BUKIT MERTAJAM - A Nepalese woman has been charged with aborting her foetus in a polyclinic here.

Factory worker Thapa Nirmala, 24, is alleged to have committed the offence at the polyclinic in Taman Ciku here at around 3pm on Oct 9.

The under Section 315 of the Penal Code for causing the death of a child before, at or immediately after birth, carries a jail term of up to 10 years.

No plea was recorded when Thapa was indicted Monday as she did not understood the charge read to her in Bahasa Malaysia.

Sessions judge Musyiri Peet fixed Nov 12 for a Nepalese interpreter.

Deputy public prosecutor Lim Saw Sim prosecuted the case.
