New hotline for the needy

New hotline for the needy

SINGAPORE- Those in need of financial or emotional help can now turn to the Community Chest (ComChest), thanks to its new ComChest Carer hotline.

Mr Phillip Tan, chairman of ComChest, said the hotline is targeted at "emergency cases" in which those in distress do not know who to turn to for help - for example, a family in financial difficulty because its sole breadwinner has suddenly died.

Callers will be attended to within 48 hours, after which ComChest can offer short-term financial help and refer them to the relevant social service agency partner for follow up action.

"When people are in distress, they don't have the capacity to think (of who to call)," said Mr Tan.

Those who need help can call the ComChest Carer hotline at 9665-3221.
