New undergraduate bursary to help needy NUS medical students

SINGAPORE - A new undergraduate bursary will be available for needy students at the National University of Singapore's (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

The OncoCare Medical Bursary, which will be offered in the new academic year from Aug 2015 onwards, was established by the OncoCare Cancer Centre.

The centre has pledged a sum of $750,000 over five years.

Dr Tay Miah Hiang, who is part of NUS Medicine's alumnus and a former undergraduate bursary recipient himself, founded the bursary, reported The Straits Times.

"This bursary is a meaningful way for us to do so, and we hope the students who are helped by this will in turn be inspired and encouraged, and remember to step forward to help those less fortunate one day," Dr Tay said.
