NTU launches first student-built satellite

The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has launched its first student-built satellite under a programme to train engineers for singapore's space industry.

Built by a group of undergraduate engineering students, the 1.33kg Velox-PII was placed in orbit by a rocket launched from Russia last Thursday.

NTU launched its first satellite, the X-SAT, which was built in conjunction with DSO Laboratories, in April 2011.

"Our pipeline of bigger projects will train our future students ... and realise Singapore's ambitions to make a global mark in the space industry," said Associate Professor Low Kay-Soon, director of NTU's Satellite Research Centre, who mentored the students.
