Online vice ring: Motor sports boss jailed for 10 weeks

SINGAPORE- A 30th man has been jailed in the online vice ring case involving a 17-year-old girl.

Motor sports boss Arjunan Kulasegaram, 38, is one of 51 men charged over the case. He was jailed for 10 weeks yesterday for commercial sex with an underage escort.

The judge allowed an application by his lawyer to take a medical device to prison, subject to prison regulations, to help with a sleep apnoea problem. The divorcee has several health issues.

He could have been jailed for up to seven years and/or fined for paid sex with a person under 18 years old.

Earlier this year, Kulasegaram pleaded guilty to paying $450 for the sexual services of the minor at Pan Pacific Orchard Hotel in October 2010.

Leading up to the crime, Kulasegaram had come across a website offering escorts' sexual services and started to patronise women listed on it.

Kulasegaram, who used the alias Mike, sent text messages to the escort's pimp, Tang Boon Thiew, that month to engage the minor's sexual services.

He made a booking at the hotel, and Tang arranged for the girl, then 17, to meet him there.

He paid her $450 after she performed oral sex.

Tang, 39, has been jailed for four years and 10 months and fined $90,000 for 20 vice-related charges.
