Orchard Road lights up for Christmas

SINGAPORE - The annual Orchard Road Christmas Light-Up Ceremony was held yesterday (Nov 23), with President Tony Tan Keng Yam as the guest-of-honour.

The colour theme for this year's decorations is blue and white.

The ceremony marks the start of a brilliant display of radiant lights all across Orchard Road, signalling the beginning of the holiday season.

This year, more than 700 individuals will be doing their part to rally people from all walks of life to pledge their support to help the less fortunate in our community, according to a statement from the Community Chest.

Volunteers from the Community Chest and its corporate partners will be encouraging individuals all over Singapore In November and December to pledge their support, via more than 700 Community Chest Festive Giving Cards with various donation amounts. This will go towards helping over 300,000 children with special needs, youth-at-risk, persons with disabilities, lonely and frail elderly and families in need.
