2010

Indian national Chelladurai Lenin, 47, was changing the ceiling lights at a condominium lobby when he fell 2.8m from a ladder, suffering head and leg injuries.

His boss and owner of a maintenance and services company took him to two clinics but eventually left an unconscious Mr Chelladurai on a pavement along Upper Changi road. Mr Chelladurai died on the pavement.

The boss was sentenced to a year's jail and fined $12,000.

2007

Chinese illegal immigrant Xiu Chuntao, 28, died in an industrial accident at the construction site where he was working.

He is believed to have fallen from a building.

A co-worker claimed that his employer had delayed sending Mr Xiu for treatment as he did not have a valid work permit.

He was left bleeding for 30 minutes before the foreman decided to send him to a hospital and report it as a "road accident".

2005

An illegal immigrant from Myanmar, Mr Maung Soe Thein, died after falling from a scaffolding at work.

His employer and foreman then dumped his body at a multi-storey carpark in Compassvale Crescent.

The employer's son, who was in the know, did not inform the authorities.

The employer and his son were sentenced to eight months' jail each, while the foreman was jailed seven months.

1997

An illegal worker from Bangladesh, Mr Mohamad Bashar, then 24, was dumped in a monsoon drain after he was injured in a workplace accident.

He had been working at a construction site when he was hit by a descending lift, leaving him paralysed from the waist down.

His employers then drove him to a forested area off Jalan Ulu Sembawang and left him there.

Mr Bashar was rescued three hours later when the occupants of a passing military jeep heard his cries for help.

Two of the three men who dumped him there were sentenced to 18 months and 15 months in jail. The third man jumped bail after he was charged.
