Overnight learning experience

GIIS Balestier campus hosted a two-day camp for students from Sept 26 to 28. It was attended by 68 students from Classes 3, 4 and 5 and conducted by our PE teachers, Mr Manoj Nair and Ms Kavitha P.V., along with a few external coaches and teachers.

Titled The Leader In Me, the camp was aimed at developing students' potential as individuals and as a team in a fun environment.

No camp is complete without a tent, so we were taught how to pitch a tent and light a campfire.

The teachers also had a variety of activities lined up for us like paper quilling, clay modelling, painting and sports like football, cricket, tennis or badminton to suit the interest of the students. The highlight of the camp was trekking in the Botanical Gardens, which was an amazing adventure. Aerobics, zumba and salsa was part of this fun-filled camp. We were also taught important life skills like cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR, which is useful in emergencies.

Though we missed our parents and home, the camp taught us how to be independent, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership qualities.
