PAP unveils team to contest WP-held Aljunied GRC

SINGAPORE - The People's Action Party (PAP) has unveiled the candidate line-up to contest Aljunied group representation constituency (GRC) in the coming general election.

The team comprises Yeo Guat Kwang, 54, assistant secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC); Chua Eng Leong, 44, a private banker; Victor Lye, 52, chief executive of Shenton Insurance; K Muralidharan Pillai, 47, lawyer; and Shamsul Kamar, 43, a former head of department at a secondary school.

They will face Workers' Party (WP) incumbents Low Thia Khiang, Sylvia Lim, Chen Show Mao, Faisal Manap and Pritam Singh at the Sep 11 polls.

The WP had defeated former Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo's team with a 54.72 per cent vote share in the last general election. It was the first time since the introduction of the GRC system in 1988 that an opposition party had won a GRC.
