SINGAPORE - Veteran MP Charles Chong has been unveiled as the People's Action Party's candidate to contest Punggol East single-member constituency (SMC) in the coming general election.
Mr Chong was the elected MP for Joo Chiat SMC, which has been absorbed by Marine Parade group representation constituency (GRC) under the new electoral boundaries.
Punggol East SMC is currently held by the Workers' Party's (WP) Lee Li Lian, who will be defending the seat. She had defeated PAP candidate Dr Koh Poh Koon with a vote share of 54.5 per cent in a by-election in 2013.
Dr Koh has since joined the PAP team to contest Ang Mo Kio GRC.
