SINGAPORE - The Parkway Parade shopping mall is closed for a day after a fire that broke out yesterday (May 15) night.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the fire broke out in the storeroom of a unit located on the second floor. They had been alerted to the fire at 11.50pm.

There were no reported injuries, and no evacuation was conducted.

The Straits Times, which visited the mall on Monday, reported that the mall employees were telling the public that Parkway Parade would be closed for the day.

It was also reported that the fire originated at Fox Kids and Baby, a clothing store on the second floor of the mall.

Madam Maragaret Chia, 68, a part-time retail assistant working at the mall told The Straits Times: "We received a call in the morning telling us not to come, but we came anyway to see the situation".

Ms Jenny Khoo, general manager of the mall was reported as saying that the closure was to facilitate a cleanup and perform a site check.

The mall will remain closed until further notice. However, the office tower and banks on the first level of the mall will be open.
