Pedestrian Night to see Chingay performers

Roving Chingay Parade characters and music performances will fill a stretch of Orchard Road this evening as part of the monthly Pedestrian Night.

From 6.30pm, there will be a showcase of local music groups, including the Brass Nation brass ensemble, Timbre Music Academy Collective band and jazz band Lounge Lizards. From 7pm, performers in costumes taking part in next month's Chingay Parade will mingle with the crowd.

The following roads will be closed today from 6pm to 11pm: the stretch of Orchard Road between Scotts Road and Bideford Road as well as the carriageway of Mount Elizabeth in the direction of Orchard Road, between Nutmeg Road and Orchard Road.

The first Pedestrian Night in Orchard Road was held in October last year and it will continue to take place on the first Saturday of every month until March.

It was introduced by the Orchard Road Business Association (Orba) and Singapore Tourism Board to revitalise the shopping belt. Over the last few months, Orba has made some changes to the event based on visitors' feedback.

These include moving entry points to just outside shopping mall entrances. The time from which visitors can start walking on the roads has also been brought forward to 6.30pm.
