GEORGE TOWN - An ambush at Jalan Patani led to the biggest drug seizure in the state in recent years, with police arresting six men aged between 35 and 46 on the island and the mainland and seizing 150kg of drugs worth RM11.56mil (S$4.45million).
After the first arrest in Jalan Patani, police followed up by detaining three men in Lorong Madras here and another two in Machang Bubuk, Bukit Mertajam, to cripple the drug-trafficking syndicate.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Department director Comm Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the bust, the state's largest in three years, netted 48kg of ecstasy powder and 9.3kg of ecstasy in pill form, 27.8kg of syabu, 20.4kg of heroin, 752gm of heroin base, 3.3kg of sex enhancement pills, 35.5kg of caffeine and 64gm of ganja.
"A man was first arrested in Jalan Patani and this subsequently led to the arrest of the other three men at a drug laboratory in Lorong Madras. Two more men were later picked up at a house in Machang Bubuk.
"The arrests, which were made between 5pm on Monday and 4am today (yesterday), also led to the seizure of two vehicles and RM30,660 believed to be proceeds from the sale of the drugs," he told a press conference.
Comm Noor Rashid said most of the drugs were found in the laboratory.
