Petrol kiosk worker pleads not guilty to abuse charge

BUTTERWORTH - The man accused of abusing his seven-year-old daughter pleaded not guilty at a magistrate's court here.

Petrol kiosk attendant Mohd Shaikful Adli Mohd Afendi, 34, was charged with abusing his daughter on Jan 15 at 7.23pm at his Taman Sungai Dua Utama flat in Sungai Dua.

The charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine not exceeding RM20,000 upon conviction.

Magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Wahab set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and fixed Feb 25 for mention.

The Year One pupil was rescued by the police from a locked flat in Sungai Dua after a teacher from the girl's school lodged a report.

She is currently undergoing treatment at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.
