Pipes fall as trailer makes turn

SINGAPORE - Now imagine more than 20 of them bouncing and rolling towards you.

Motorists at Jurong Port had a narrow escape when a trailer that was moving more than 20 pipes spilled them on the road.

With a loud crash, they slammed onto the asphalt and rolled towards warehouses and cars parked at the side.

It happened yesterday at 1pm.

Mr Lim, who declined to give his full name, contacted The New Paper after his friend's car was hit by the pipes.

"The trailer was making a turn when the pipes it was carrying went loose, spilling all over the place," he told TNP.

"Vehicles that were parked by the side were hit by the pipes."

Jurong Port spokesman Sheilla Zainal said the accident involved a trailer from an external contractor.

She said: "The trailer's side stanchions gave way and some pipes fell as it was turning.

"Three vehicles parked at the side of a warehouse suffered minor scratches, a broken rear light and a damaged rear bumper."

Nobody was hurt.
