Close to 400 students and several Team Singapore athletes kicked off the "Together We Are Stronger" campaign at River Valley High School on Thursday.

The nationwide campaign - helmed by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and supported by the Singapore National Olympic Council and the Singapore National Paralympic Council - aims to garner greater support for Team Singapore athletes at the upcoming SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games in Myanmar via the submission of photo pledges.

Singaporeans can now upload photos showing their support for national athletes on social media application Instagram with the hashtag #ourteamsg, or on the campaign's website www.ourteamsg.com.

By incorporating social media, the campaign also hopes to reach out to younger Singaporeans.

Said national basketball captain Desmond Oh, who will leave for Manila today with the national team for a one-week training camp: "There will definitely be more support. There are a lot of young people on social media these days, so this is a good way of reaching out to them."

National sprinter Calvin Kang felt this campaign is a good way to build up support for the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

"I think this campaign is good leading up to 2015. It takes a few years for a trend to start," said Kang, who is targeting a gold in the men's 4x100m relay.

The SSC had launched a similar campaign last June to gather well-wishes from the public on the eve of the London Olympics. It received 200,000 responses.
