NIBONG TEBAL - A 47-year-old woman wasn't about to let go of her handbag and decided to fight off the snatch thief instead.
"She had just gotten on her motorcycle when a baton-wielding motorcyclist tried to snatch her handbag away," OCPD Supt Shafee Abd Samad said.
"But she fought back and even managed to snatch the baton away from the robber," he said.
"She also managed to push his motorcycle to the ground to prevent him from fleeing," he said in a statement yesterday.
Her screams caught the attention of residents in Taman Seri Emas here who managed to give chase and apprehend the thief at 7.30am on Saturday.
"The residents then handed him to the police," Supt Shafee said.
He said the woman was sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital where she received treatment for minor head injuries.
"The suspect tested positive for morphine abuse," said Supt Shafee.
"He has 18 previous criminal cases."
Apparently, the motorcycle he was riding was a stolen machine.
