Police arrest man for thefts from trolleys

Police have arrested a 50-year-old man who they believe is responsible for several cases of theft from trolley at a mall in Alexandra Road.

The police said that they received a report on Tuesday afternoon about a stolen handphone. The victim said that her phone was stolen from her handbag, which she had placed in a trolley.

Police officers traced the suspect and arrested him on Thursday at about 12.30pm in Clementi Avenue 5.

Investigations revealed that the suspect could be involved in three other similar thefts, the police said in a statement today.

The man will be charged in court tomorrow, and, if found guilty, may be sentenced to up to three years in jail and/or a fine.
