Police cameras help nab molest suspect

A man, believed to have molested a girl under 14 years old at a Housing Board block, has been arrested with the help of police cameras.

The 22-year-old is suspected to have followed the girl to her block in Bedok North on Thursday and molested her before fleeing.

Officers from Bedok Police Division immediately followed up on the report and studied footage from cameras installed at the block's void deck to establish his identity.

He was arrested at Bedok North Avenue 4 on Friday at about 2pm.

If convicted of aggravated outrage of modesty, he faces between three and 10 years in jail, and caning.

Police plan to install cameras at all 10,000 Housing Board blocks and multi-storey carparks by 2016.
