Police investigating allegations that officers physically abused man during arrest

SINGAPORE - The police are investigating a complaint against the actions taken by its officers during an arrest on April 3.

Businessman Lim Chin Huat had lodged a report claiming that police officers had surrounded him and physically abused him at the Yang Gui Fei nightclub in Hotel Rendezvous, reported The Straits Times.

In response, the police confirmed that they had arrested a male Singaporean for disorderly behaviour during a spot check at the outlet along Bras Basah Road on that day, and that the subject had lodged a report alleging abuse by its officers.

Investigations into the veracity of the allegations are currently on-going.

A police spokesperson said that all complaints made against its officers will be thoroughly investigated, and that action will be taken against any errant officers if the complaints are substantiated.

"However, if the allegations are found to be false, appropriate action will be taken against any persons who furnish false information, which is an offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code," the spokesperson added.
