Police nab snatch theft suspect in 30 minutes

SINGAPORE - Police said that they have arrested a 51-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of snatch theft in Holland Drive.

They said in a statement on Sunday that a man snatched the handbag of an 82-year-old woman on Saturday at 2.52pm.

The woman went home to seek help from her husband, who made a police report immediately.

The police said that officers immediately searched the vicinity. With the help of closed-circuit TV footage and descriptions provided by the victim, officers managed to spot the suspect within 30 minutes.

The handbag and other belongings were recovered and seized as exhibits, the police said.

The suspect will be charged in court tomorrow. If found guilty, he can be jailed up to seven years and caned.
