Police van hits biker on PIE, sends him flying

SINGAPORE - A motorcyclist was hit by a police van along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) towards Tuas, near the Stevens Road exit at around 8.30am today.

A Stomp reader caught the accident on his in-car camera and sent the footage to the citizen journalism website.

From the video, it appears that the police van collided with the motorcyclist while the driver was trying to change lanes.

The police van was travelling on the second lane while the bike was coming from behind, in between the first and second lanes.

The video shows the police van swerving into the first lane, hitting the bike as it approaches.

A taxi behind both vehicles stops and the driver gets out to direct traffic away from the lane.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a statement that they received a call regarding the accident at 8.33am. One ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

The motorcyclist was conveyed in a conscious state to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the SCDF said.
