Policemen in shorts to represent Singapore Police Force in NDP vintage parade

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Police Force will be fielding 25 participants in a vintage parade on National Day on Aug 9.

The vintage parade is a throwback to early National Day Parades in the 1960s, and will feature policemen, nurses, firemen and soldiers in uniforms they wore back then.

Retired Senior Staff Sergeant Ramalingam, 69, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Gho Boon Eik, 62, will be joining the parade, the Singapore Police Force shared in a Facebook post on Friday.

The pioneers, who have been in the force for decades, will be donning the khaki shorts worn by policemen of yore.

Mr Ramalingam is a veteran who took part in the 1967 NDP. That was also the year he joined the police force. He said: "I am honoured to be given the opportunity to represent the Police at our 50th NDP."

Mr Goh, who joined SPF in 1972, said he was "overjoyed" to be celebrating Singapore's Jubilee.
