President Tony Tan to meet Malaysian King and PM Najib

SINGAPORE - President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Mrs Mary Tan will make his first State Visit to Malaysia from September 18 to 20.

The President was invited to Malaysia by His Majesty Tuanku Alhaj Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Badlishah, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and Her Majesty Tuanku Sultanah Hajah Haminah binti Haji Hamidun, the Raja Permaisuri Agong.

President Tan and Mrs Tan will receive a ceremonial welcome at Parliament Square, followed by a State Drive and Audience with the Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong.

They will also be hosted to a State Banquet by the Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong.

President Tan and Mrs Tan will also receive a call by the Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato' Sri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor.

While in Malaysia, President Tan will visit Universiti Malaya (UM), a PERMATA Negara Nursery in Putrajaya, and the Islamic Arts Museum of Malaysia. He will meet Singaporeans in Malaysia at a reception hosted by Singapore's High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur Ong Keng Yong.

He will then meet the Governor of Malacca Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob and the Chief Minister of Malacca Datuk Wira Ir. Idris Haron before returning to Singapore.

President Tan will be accompanied by Minister for National Development Mr Khaw Boon Wan and Mrs Khaw; Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Transport Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim; Members of Parliament Mr Arthur Fong and Dr Intan Azura binte Mokhtar; and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development.

During President Tan's absence, Mr J Y Pillay, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers, will exercise the functions of the office of President of the Republic of Singapore.
