PSI improves further on Tuesday afternoon

SINGAPORE - The Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings have dropped to the moderate range of 50-100.
The three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) at 1pm is 67, an improvement from the 8am reading of 91.
Singapore saw a hazy Hari Raya Haji holiday yesterday with the three-hour PSI standing at 153 at 7pm, the highest level so far this year.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a statement yesterday that the pollution was due to smoke blown from central Sumatra by the prevailing winds across the Straits of Malacca towards Singapore and the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia.
The agency added that it had requested immediate action to suppress the fires as well as urgent updates from the Indonesian authorities.
PSI levels of between 101 and 200 are considered unhealthy. Prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical activities should be avoided by the elderly, children, pregnant women and those with chronic lung or heart conditions.
Normal activities can still be carried out at moderate levels of 50-100.
