Pub owner and wife held over shooting case in Penang

GEORGE TOWN - Police have picked a couple over Sunday's shooting case near the Patani Road market.

The pub owner and his wife, both in their 40s, were detained at 12.30am in Rangoon Road here yesterday.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said police also recovered a plastic pac-ket believed to contain drugs.

"We also impounded their car.

"They will be detained to facilitate investigations under Section 307(1)of the Penal Code for attempted murder," he told a press conference in SMK Jelutong here.

ACP Mior added that the man had a previous record for administering dangerous drugs.

On Sunday, a man in his 20s was shot near the market at around 5am in what is believed to be a retaliation following a dispute.

In an unrelated matter, a 50-year-old factory worker suffered injuries to her head and her knees in a snatch theft incident while waiting for her factory van in Jelutong.

The robber who was riding pillion on a motorcycle grabbed her handbag during the 6am incident and dragged her se-veral metres away before speeding off.

"There was no CCTV camera near the scene. We hope witnesses would come forward to shed more light on the incident," ACP Mior said.
