Rainwater seeps into MRT carriage after heavy downpour

Commuters were scrambling to get out of the way when a heavy downpour caused rainwater to seep into an MRT cabin at Tanah Merah this morning.

Stomp contributor Jennice sent in photos and videos of the incident that happened Aug 28 about 10.30am.

The downpour at the East area, Changi and Tanah Merah, was so heavy that water gushed into the MRT when the doors opened.

The rain created a 'mini waterfall' at the doors, and the water formed big puddles inside the cabin -  which commuters tried to avoid.

Wrote Jennice:

"In the midst of a sudden downpour, a train which pulled into Tanah Merah station created a downpour of its own.

"Rain fell from the sides of the train like a water curtain, and seeped onto the floor of the carriage.

"Passengers lifted their belongings off the wet floor quickly, including their feet for some."
