AT JUST 19, he had chalked up a list of criminal acts that would appal any right-minded person.
In May last year, he committed his most heinous crime - terrorising a 13-year-old girl before brutally taking away her innocence.
At the time, the full-time national serviceman, was out on bail after being charged with theft. He was also absent without official leave from the Singapore Armed Forces.
Yesterday, the youth, now 20, pleaded guilty in court to seven charges - one count each of rape, criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful confinement, all related to his assault on his underage victim - and three counts of having consensual sex with three other underage girls.
The three students were 13 to 14 years old when he had sex with them, making one of them pregnant.
As he is still in a relationship with the girl he made pregnant, he cannot be named, to protect her identity.
Eight other charges, comprising seven counts of having consensual sex with the three minors and one count of theft, will be taken into consideration during sentencing.
The court was told of how he exploited his rape victim's trust to trick her into going to his flat on May 21 last year.
While there, he offered the girl money to have sex with him. When she refused, he got increasingly violent, hitting her head and threatening her with a knife until she submitted to his lust.
He had got to know the girl through a mutual friend the previous evening. The group hung out at a Toa Payoh billiards centre and left for home only around 8am the next day.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Dwayne Lum said the girl shared a taxi with the youth. She lived in Hougang and he in Teck Whye. When they were in the cab, he convinced her to go to his flat by concocting a story about wanting to pass her some money for a mutual friend.
After they entered his home around 9am, he locked the front door.
He asked the girl to sit on a bed in the living room. As they were chatting, he suddenly asked her if she would have sex with him in exchange for an undisclosed amount of money.
When she refused, he offered her more money.
After she continued to resist his advances, he pinned her down onto the bed.
As she started struggling, he told her that he was just joking and released his grip.
The terrified girl tried to take the opportunity to escape when he went to the kitchen.
But she realised that she was trapped when she found out the front door was locked.
He returned to the living room and pinned her down again. When she started screaming, he got sticky tape and tried in vain to gag her mouth.
The youth then whacked her head with his fist before going to the kitchen to retrieve a knife with a 16cm blade.
He threatened to hurt her with it unless she gave in to his demands.
In tears, the girl finally relented as she felt there was no other alternative.
She returned to the bed and he took off her shorts and panties. He then raped her even though she was having her period. He did not use a condom.
MUM CAME HOME
Afterwards, they got dressed and the victim managed to leave when his mother returned home. She called a friend and told her about her ordeal.
The friend informed the victim's mother, who took the girl to make a police report.
The youth was arrested on Jan 27 this year.
In mitigation, his lawyer, Mr Anand Nalachandran, told Justice Choo Han Teck that his client is young and has subnormal intellect.
He urged the court to send him to reformative training, where inmates must spend 18 months to three years following a strict regimen.
DPP Lee Zu Zhao called for the accused to be sentenced to at least 12 years' jail with 12 strokes of the cane.
Stressing that the accused had committed the rape while out on bail and later absconded from court, Mr Lee said his conduct was not that of a "low-functioning adolescent driven purely by testosterone".
Justice Choo called for a reformative training report. The rapist will be sentenced at a later date.
For raping the girl, he can be jailed between eight and 20 years and receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
After he had unprotected sex with three underage girls between October 2012 and last December, one of them became pregnant with his child.
The girl, who is still his girlfriend, had an abortion when she was just 14.
The 20-year-old full-time national serviceman was still a teenager when he had consensual sex with the girls, two of whom were 14 and the third just 13.
He cannot be named to protect his girlfriend's identity.
The court heard yesterday that he met the first girl, the 13-year-old, in October 2012 through a friend. They became an item a few days later.
Later that year, he asked her in his Teck Whye flat if he could take her virginity.
She refused at first but gave in after he pestered her repeatedly to have sex with him.
He met his current girlfriend, in late 2012 through friends and they entered into a relationship in June last year.
They had sex at his friend's flat in Bukit Panjang about a month later.
She subsequently became pregnant.
She aborted the baby on Jan 17.
He became intimate with a third girl sometime between November and December last year when she went to the Bukit Panjang flat to drink alcohol.
Later that night, they had sex in a room.
For having sex with a girl below 14 years old, the youth can be jailed up to 20 years, fined or caned.
