Readers extend helping hands to orphans

Kind-hearted members of the public have come forward to show concern for three young children who became orphans after their mother died yesterday.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the children lost their father four years ago. He had apparently died after suffering from severe fever and diarrhoea.

Their mother was sent to hospital three days ago because of fever resulting from a viral infection. She was pronounced brain dead yesterday.

The three children, aged nine to 12, are being looked after currently by a neighbour and another kind-hearted person.

The Chinese daily reported that some people have approached it to offer help to the children, after reading its report. Some people have taken the children out for meals after the report.

One 46-year-old reader has even offered to donate a part of his monthly income to support the children.
