The number of students attending Chinese independent schools nationwide has gone up, setting a new record, Sin Chew Daily reported.
There are 83,042 students in total this year, compared with 79,264 last year.
According to a survey by the United Chinese School Committees Association (Dong Zong), the number of new enrolments has been passing the 10,000 mark since 2005 and 13,000 in the past six years.
There were 16,287 new students this year, a slight increase from the 16,157 in 2014.
There are 14 schools in the country with more than 2,000 students each, mostly in Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
There are also 15 smaller schools, with less than 300 students each, mostly in Sabah and Sarawak.
